Our ‘Retailer of the Year’ is on a Mission to Make a Difference More Convenient

Hi! I’m Lucy from Goodness Zero Waste, a plastic free shop on a mission to try and make a difference more convenient!

The news regarding Trafford Business and Community Awards is absolutely incredible! I’m blown away that we’ve been nominated and it means so much to all of the team that we’ve been put forward alongside so many of our amazing local businesses!

Why did you start Goodness Zero Waste?

I work in Falls Prevention for Older People and just started becoming increasingly conscious of trying to do my bit for our environment, and how difficult it is to do that due to time, convenience and cost etc. I figured that if I found that, everyone else must too, and if we all need to start trying to reduce our impact it needs to be much easier.

What has the support been like?

Throughout the whole process the support from everyone has been phenomenal. We love seeing lots of our regular customers but also seeing lots of new faces too, and really love seeing how much people enjoy it.. the peanut butter machine seems to have brought so much joy!!

How did you get started?

We were due to take over McGloins Butchers on Crofts Bank Road on 1st April but thankfully our lease was put on hold until August 2020. With the help of my Husband, parents, amazing friends, local makers, 231 wonderful contributors to our Crowdfunder, and fantastic support from so many others we set to work on transforming the shop into Goodness Zero Waste!

What is your mission?

The purpose of this set up is to try and help us reduce our plastic and our impact on the planet. Whether it’s pasta, coffee, snacks or soap it’s usually all in plastic packaging. We ethically source plastic free food, beauty, household products and gifts and work with lots of other small businesses and local makers too which has felt really special!

For food and refills people can bring their own containers but you don’t have to come prepared! This kind of shopping is new to a lot of us and people may feel a little daunted by it but our aim is to try and make it as accessible as possible, making it a fun, easy and immersive experience that people can actually enjoy. It’s just about trying to make little changes at a time and by doing that together we can make a huge difference!

A huge thank you again to everyone and a massive shout out to our amazing team!
