The Stretford Wall of Fame, an outdoor gallery

The Stretford Wall of Fame is a celebration of people connected to Stretford who have contributed to arts, culture, and social and political change within our community and beyond, the outdoor exhibition can be seen in the pocket park next to Stretford Public Hall.

The people featured on the wall were selected by local residents and reflect the changing historical boundaries of Stretford. We have used this space to shine a light on the successes of the people less recognised for their achievements so there may be some people you won’t have heard of.

The Stretford Wall of Fame is the creative vision of Stretford resident Jules Bagnoli, “In late 2019 I picked up a leaflet for ‘Culture Champions’ a programme supporting over 50’s in Stretford to bring their creative projects to life. Dirty, unloved public spaces are my bugbear, so I thought about getting support to spruce up Stretford’s subway. Coaxed all the way by our project lead and art-of-the-possible expert, Jessica, we talked ideas over tea and cakes then online as Covid kicked in. The plan was to show a bit of care for Stretford’s subways, turn them into walk-through galleries of our local greats. Bright, welcoming poster sketches by local artist Barry now showcase historic greats from Sylvia Pankhurst right up to Alan Carr today. We’ve started a conversation about who and what makes us love Stretford that’s going to keep running long after the Manchester rain has faded our heroes”.
