Trafford Veterans – how they support our community

Trafford Veterans was set up in 2015 by Claire and Chris – both veterans themselves. With nothing more than some leaflets, they wanted to be able to support armed forces veterans from within the Trafford community.

Both Claire and Chris understand how tough it can be getting back into civilian life after leaving the forces, and the needs of some of the more vulnerable members of our community.

Over the last 6 years, they have grown to provide support groups that enable veterans to learn new skills, start a new hobby – but importantly socialise and meet others.  Prior to the pandemic they provided groups such as – breakfast get togethers, model-making, crafts, days out, allotment project and football. These were life-lines for some of their group.

Over the last 12 months they have offered hundreds of hours of practical help –

  • delivering food parcels to veterans;
  • doorstep welfare checks;
  • loaned out their mini-bus to another veteran who was completing the 3 peaks challenge to raise funds;
  • donated essential furniture and other items to local veterans in need;
  • helping with family tracing so medals could be returned;
  • helping families when they sadly lose a loved one
  • and much much more besides….

You may also have spotted that Trafford Veterans were also honoured by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, with a Points of Light award in January 2021.  In the letter, Johnson advises – “I want to thank you for your service to our nation and now your service to others through ‘Trafford Veterans. From your own service, you know what is needed to support brave veterans as they move to civilian life. Your online events, welfare checks and understanding peer support are more important than ever during the pandemic. You continue to bring a sense of camaraderie and companionship to your fellow veterans.”

Claire and Chris work tirelessly to support local veterans and their families. You can find them on the social media channels below, and do get in touch with them if you feel you can support in any way –
