Sports Day is generally one of the first things that is put in the school calendar, and which many parents attend to watch. Like many other events, trips, shows etc planned for the summer term, COVID-19 has spoiled the party so to speak. So the idea was to ‘still give young people their Sports Day’.
Throughout lockdown the Trafford School Sports Partnership (a network of approx 70 Trafford Primary schools) has provided various digital resources and challenges for schools to use in order to engage with and keep their pupils active whilst at home.
We came up with 6 challenges that could be easily delivered in both the school and home environment. All challenges are inclusive and differentiated for different age groups – EYFS, Key Stage 1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2 pupils.
Teachers will submit the scores for children taking the challenges in school and parents of children at home are asked to complete a quick Survey Monkey to submit their scores. The challenges can of course be just for fun as well – scores don’t have to be submitted!
The official VSD date is Wednesday 1st July, but looking at the weather forecast we decided to expand it to encompass all this week with results to reach us by 3pm on Friday 3rd July. After all it wouldn’t be Sports Day week without some rain!
We will then look to announce the ‘winning school’ at each age group together with our individual challenge winners.
